Motion ≠ Progress

Motion and progress are not the same.

Aimless motion is a waste of time and resources. Redundant, disorganized meetings are a perfect example. They make one’s schedule look busy and productive; however, their discourse lacks structure, and their output is left for interpretation.

On the other hand, progress is a positive vector, defined by both magnitude and a positive direction. No matter how incrementally, it moves the project forward:

  • A meeting driving to a critical decision
  • An organizational session aiming to distribute resources most appropriately.

Without these activities, parts of the project remain ambiguous.

A manager’s actions must drive progress, not motion.
